Payroll administrator CV example

By the MyAdminCV team · Updated 28 October 2026

What a strong payroll administrator CV looks like, with example lines you can adapt.

What employers look for

Payroll administrator adverts ask for Matric or a payroll certificate, experience processing weekly and monthly payrolls, and knowledge of PAYE, UIF and SDL. They name EMP201 and EMP501 submissions, IRP5 certificates and UIF forms, and payroll systems such as Sage 300 People or VIP, Sage Pastel Payroll or Vanilla. Some name bargaining council agreements (for example MIBCO or MEIBC) and ask for 3 to 5 years of experience. Show how many people you paid, how often, and that your returns were on time.

Questions people ask

Which payroll software should I list?
List those you have really used, spelled as in the advert. Adverts name Sage VIP and Sage 300 People, Sage Pastel Payroll, Vanilla and others.
Do I need a payroll qualification?
Some adverts ask for a payroll certificate or diploma and some only ask for Matric and years of experience. List what you have, and say how many payrolls you have run.
